Background This is really a 3/4 Meter Jazz Waltz "Swing" rhythm |1 2 a3 | that has been "flattened" into a Straight Time rhythm: |1 2 + 3 | and then doubled and made into 6/8 Meter: |1 2 + 3 4 5 + 6 |. The normal Metric primary stress on counts 1 and 4 is maintained to give it a 2-Pulse Feel, but there’s secondary stress on count 3 to initially give it a “Shuffle” Feel (falling into the Pulse on count 4) than contract it by putting another stress on count 5 instead of the expected “Shuffle” Feel on count 6, giving it more of a “Funky” Feel.
