Background

The Krakatoa Song-Building Class & Community Band made this up by “Fusing” different principles of drumming together (Beat, Back-Beat, Pulse, Off-Beat/Up-Beat Feel, Double-Off-Beats, Pick-ups, and Build-ups) and many different Styles. It’s rather quite “confusing”, so we called it “Krakafusion”.

Listen to the Steadier Time-Keepers (Shakers, Metal-Cowbell, Tambourine, Wood, then Rasp) to keep together.  Don’t get thrown off by the Up-Beats that some play.  Listen for the Build-up in the “Father” Drum to signal the end of the Phrase.

|    +     + a   +      +a|   +a     +a    +a      | Off-Beats & Double-Off-Beats

Role 6 "Master" and Solo Drum Style-Guidelines:

I suggest the following:  Good luck finding any holes to fill!  Listen to different instruments, one at a time, and either Support or Dialogue with them.  Try adding to the confusion by adding a Triple-Subdivision Feel (1/4, 1/8, or 1/16-note Triplets, Shuffles, Swing patterns) for a really Polyrhythmic tension.  Play “off” the Soloists.
